Gears of War 2 - gameplay trailer REVIEWED
Have you seen it? You should have. The new ACTUAL GAMEPLAY trailer of GoW2 arrived on Xbox Live and pretty much the entire internet over the weekend. There's no excuse to not know what we're talking about here.
The trailer shows a surprising amount of MEATY gameplay, with development boss Cliff Bleszinski introducing and generally helming the trailer. It's a good watch. It's a riveting watch. It's Gears of War 2 unmasked for the first time.
So here's a review of it.
00.09 CLIFF! It's Cliffy B. He's looking relaxed and casual in an ironic t-shirt. He's unshaven, but impressively tanned for a video game developer. And is that a pumped bicep and 'alternative lifestyle' tattoo we can see on his left arm?
00.19 STILL CLIFF Cliffy says the Locust now have a weapon SO POWERFUL it can take out entire cities. All males under the age of 14 have just wet themselves a little.
00.30 STILL CLIFF Something about taking big gun trucks into Locust territory. Everyone likes big guns. This game is clearly going to be a success if the guns in it are even bigger than the guns of Gears 1.
00.38 THE GAME It's the game! Our eyes are actually seeing Gears of War 2. There's a helicopter. And the sky. And a convoy of tanks. It's too much to take in!
01.00 PLAY! Here he goes. Off the tank and into action. A man shouts "Incoming!" because that's what games have to do these days to create a feeling of excitement. It's like Gears of War all over again. And Halo all over again.
01.23 MINE CART LEVEL This level is a rolling chase and shootout. Sort of an action set-piece if you will. It's the sort of thing people will describe as being "cool" we suspect.
02.08 ENEMY SHIELD Marcus picks up a dead Locust and uses its broken body as a shield. This is officially the most awesome thing to have ever happened. Nothing more awesome than this will happen until man walks on Mars. It's THAT revolutionary!
02.36 CHAIN SAW Phew. The chain saw is back. That's great news seeing as it's the only weapon I ever bothered using.
