Entirely meaningless Australian Xbox 360 sales data
Microsoft is either celebrating or commiserating today, after revealing it has sold 300,000 Xbox 360s in Australia so far.
That is either a really bad or really amazing figure. Or it could be average and completely in-line with modest estimates. We have no idea of the workings and scale of the Australian video game hardware market, to be honest, so 300,000 might be record-breaking or disastrous for MS.
Sony might be laughing right now or on the back foot. Nintendo could be having damage-limitation meetings at this very moment or arranging a party. We have literally no idea.
Sorry about this less than stellar analysis of the data, but we thought you might at least appreciate having the raw facts to post on internet forums to support/undermine various arguments on how Xbox 360 is doing on a global basis.
300,000 sounds like quite a lot, if that's any help, plus Microsoft also said Australians have bought 2m 360 games and 520,000 "accessories" so far - which means Xbox 360 is raking in more money down there than any of its competitors. That bit is definitely good news.
